Market data & context
- **What is your opinion on reading the news everyday? β NEWS AVOIDANCE**
- I personally listen to a commentator that presents the news in a pretty reasonable way 5 days a week (approx 45 minute show), especially because it seems like the country I'm in is in an absolute state of upheaval.
- I personally skip all news. News outlets are companies. Companies need to make money. Their core product is information. They will do anything, no matter how much they value integrity, to sell you information. You are the consumer. I'm not saying that there are no 'good' objective news outlets but maybe food for thought. Even the 'best' need to make money.
- I read somewhere a while ago that the important news you will aways hear about. And everything else is just the usual blur that repeats every few years. I learned to fully agree with it.
- If you don't need to be informed of current events for work, I would recommend a daily news podcast by a reputable broadcasting organisation (I listen to the morning SBS news updates podcast in Australia, which is 6 minutes long). No screen time involved.
- **Does anyone else no longer watch or read the news? β NEWS FASTING**
- I don't like how it averts peoples attention from the self. You can't fix this terrible event, but we're going to flash it in front of your face and make you feel bad about something that is out of your control. I think the best thing for humanity is to let go of things out of their control and focus on bettering themselves.
- I have done a version of this. I occasionally scan the news headlines to get a sense of what is going on but do not read tragedy or negative articles at all. I'm much happier than when I used to read the news voraciously.
- I've stopped following all news completely. The news is an addicting product. They're selling FEAR. "Find out what danger lurks in your in kitchen, news at 11".
- I am glad I am not the only one choosing this path. I used to read the news quite a lot - on news sites, Twitter, Reddit, YouTube, Podcasts and so on. Then the Ukraine situation happened and found my anxiety skyrocketing. And what did I learn? Random facts combined with misinformation and propaganda.
- **Do you think itβs important to read the news/be well informed? β NEWS ALTERNATIVES**
- I don't read the news for my mental health.
